Decisions
At the beginning of this month, after 15 years of being a translator, I let go of the translation side of my business.
It was bringing me money but felt like a distraction from copywriting, the work that lights me up.
So Iāve spent a good chunk of September telling everyone about my decision and updating my online profiles, website copy and SEO details.
Turns out, when you start decluttering, itās hard to stop! When I really thought about how I want to run my business, it helped me whittle away any offers that didnāt serve those goals.
Now I offer just two services to women service providers:
āš¼ Copywriting: new web copy, blog posts and emails.
šæ Copy Clinic: strategic upgrades to existing web copy.
Work that satisfies me creatively and helps other women earn more money.
Distractions
I wasnāt planning to drop translation, so all those changes pushed my plans for September to the back burner.
And, although my daughters went back to school on the 9th and 12th September, somehow I still havenāt had a full week without anyone at home.
Then thereās my seemingly incurable attraction to all things new and shiny. This month Iāve signed up for 3 offers that I either donāt need, havenāt got time for or donāt want until next year. Iāve backed out gracefully from 2 of them and will start the third in January.
Determination
Despite (and because of) all the decisions and distractions, Iāve been resolute about staying on track with a few things this month.
š± Riding the alternating waves of confidence and doubt about my new business model. Because I know that change always makes me uneasy at first.
š± Making more connections. Had some lovely in-person and online chats, and I just hit my 2025 target of 1000 connections on LinkedIn this morning. (Thanks to @lindsay wright).
š± Posting content regularly and making time for continuous professional development.
š± Delivering on client work, which included streamlining the copy in a brand photographerās onboarding process.
š± Getting very clear on my new priorities for Q4.
So, thatās September. A month of unexpected and exciting transition for me.
How about you? When was the last time you thought about which parts of your business light you up and which parts youād like to dim down?
Copy that supports your business dreams
Your web copy, blog posts and emails should all be tailored to build on your vision for your life and business.
That’s why, before I write any copy, I send my clients questions that help them shape their offers in a way that serves their business goals.
Are you ready to invest in copy that supports your dreams?
